The message of the Cross

1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God”.

The gigantic statue of Zeus on Mount Olympia was one of the seven wonders of the world. This statue symbolizes supernatural power, might, wealth and all the wild imaginations that man dreams of possessing.

Christmas presents us with the image of an infant in a humble manger – a reminder that the Master of the universe descended to Earth, confined by the constraints of space and time for a brief duration. Going on, Jesus assumes the Cross. Consider the Cross. We see how Jesus was laid there vulnerable and helpless, willingly enduring beatings and spitting, and ultimately being hung and crucified under the scorching sun. By natural instinct, one may question His potential. Is our God, Christ Jesus, a weak or powerless God? No! Not at all. That Person on the Cross – Jesus, is the one and only true God who has supremacy and authority over everything in the universe and every need of our lives (Eph 1:18 -23). Legions of angels are at His command. Yet, He came as a helpless babe, He walked on the streets of this earth, He served the people… all for us. He bore that cross and shame for us. ‘Like a rose that is trampled on the ground, He took the fall and thought of me above all’ (Lenny LeBlanc). Well, friends, that’s not all. Jesus doesn’t become a child every Christmas and die every Good Friday. These are just reminders of history. Jesus died, but He is no longer dead. He conquered death and He lives. He is exalted to the highest place – the throne of Grace. He lives. Christ Jesus live

From heaven you came, helpless babe,
Entered our world, your glory veiled,
Not to be served but to serve
And give Your life that we might live.

This is our God, The Servant King;
He calls us now to follow Him
To bring our lives as a daily offering
Of worship to The Servant King.
(The Servant King, Graham Kendrick)
